Neuroinflammatory effects of tDCS in ovariectomized rats with chronic inflammation

Introduction: Postmenopausal women are more susceptible to chronic condition such as osteoporosis, arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. Then, we investigated the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) upon biomarkers levels in ovariectomized rats subjected model. Methods: 20 females adult Wistar were ovariectomy complete Freund’s adjuvant (CFA)-induced inflammation model divided into two groups: OAS OAT (active tDCS). Fifteen days after, submitted bimodal tDCS treatment (20min, 0.5mA, 8 days). Rats killed 24 h after last session tDCS, tissue samples (hypothalamus, cerebral cortex brainstem) collected, for analysis by ELISA. And paws extracted histological analysis. Results: increased hypothalamus TNF-α; IL-1β; IL-10 NGF levels. Also, group cortical TNF-α levels; well IL-1β brainstem. Inflammatory profile was observed histology hindpaws, however, no effect observed. Conclusion: showed an central axis, with a small peripheral site evaluated this study through histology.
